Take a couple of sisters who have been singing their entire lives across the country from each other, who now live in the same town. Add the fact they have never been able to sing what they want and how they would like. Get some women to audition, throw in an amazing accompanist who also has a doctorate in composition (what choir can choose any song they desire…… WE CAN!), spend so long coming up with a name that you have to just stop, and you get Serenata Women’s Choir.
Wanda and Karen had talked about this for a couple of years, Finally in 2018 we began! We started with just six women, but since then we’ve doubled in size! Every summer we hold auditions and soon will reach our maximum of 16 members. (New members start in September).
We sing a variety of great music: Broadway, folk , gospel, classical, sea shanties, pop hits new and old, and anything else that fires our imaginations.  There is a concert once a year in May or June, but starting in the winter months we sing that concert repertoire in Senior Living facilities to hone our sound and just for the fun of it – they are so good to us!  We avoid having a musically themed program: we love variety!
Practices are Tuesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30, from September to the end of May.  Choir members are committed for the year as our pieces are voiced specifically for each singer.
We hold auditions generally during the summer months. Auditions are booked by appointment only.
