Take a couple of sisters who have been singing their entire lives across the country from each other, who now live in the same town. Add the fact they have never been able to sing what they want and how they would like. Get some women to audition, throw in an amazing accompanist who also has a doctorate in composition – what choir can choose any song they desire…… WE CAN!! Spend so long coming up with a name that you have to just stop, and you get Serenata Women’s Choir.
Wanda and Karen started talking about this for a couple of years and in 2018 we began! We started with 6 people, and in 2025 we now have 12! Every summer we hold auditions to try to get to the magic number of 16 members.
We sing Broadway tunes, folk songs, gospel, classical, sea shanties, pop hits new and old, and anything else in between. We have a concert once a year in the spring, but we sing in Senior Living facilities for a few months before to hone our sound and because they are so good to us! You’ll never catch us having a musically themed program: we just love all of it too much!
We practice on Tuesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30, from September to the end of May. Choir members are committed for the year as our pieces are voiced specifically for who we have singing.
We hold auditions generally during the summer months. Auditions are booked by appointment only.
